The UK government intends to exceed its commitment to deliver 12 AS90 self-propelled artillery units within 100 days of taking office, and is now planning to deliver 16 units to Ukraine.
As reported on the website of the British government with reference to the Ministry of Defense, a total of 16 units will be delivered, with 10 already and six more to be delivered in the coming weeks.
“Artillery plays a vital role in providing cover for Ukrainian troops and destroying key Russian targets,” the message says.
The government reminded that Great Britain has pledged to allocate 3 billion pounds per year for military support to Ukraine until 2030/31 and as long as it is needed.
The government also announced the creation of a new joint Department of Defense and FCDO Ukraine, headed by Foreign Minister David Lammy and Defense Secretary John Healy, which will integrate expertise and help develop a new state-wide approach to Ukraine.
Alongside this, the MoD is creating a new direct cyber program to help improve the UK’s cyber resilience, with different requirements for selection and basic training.
Earlier, the Partnership Coordination Committee approved the fourth and fifth aid packages from Denmark for 44 million euros for the Mykolaiv region.
By the end of 2024, Ukraine will receive another batch of F-16 fighters from Denmark. The date and number of aircraft in the new deliveries are currently not disclosed for reasons of operational security.
