In the new aid package, the US will transfer American Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) glide bombs to Ukraine. They can hit objects at a distance of up to 110 km.

This is reported by ABC News.

A representative of the Pentagon reported that the Ukrainian military will receive JSOW glide bombs for the first time, they will be provided as part of a $375 million aid package.

These bombs can be installed on F-16 fighter jets, which Ukraine received. They have retractable wings that help them reach targets up to 70 miles (about 110 km) away.

There are currently several versions of the JSOW, but the ones being sent to Ukraine, according to a US official, are equipped with cluster munitions.

ABC sources also reported that the United States will soon announce the allocation of more than $2 billion in aid to Ukraine as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

Unlike the $350 million package, which ships weapons from existing US stockpiles, the USAI funds will be used for aid procurement contracts that could take months or years to complete.

The new aid will mostly go to the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine, the officials said.

JSOW is a low-visibility high-precision gliding bomb with a total weight of about 500 kg. It is intended for dropping from airplanes.

Analysts assume that the Ukrainian military will be able to use JSOW at a distance of several tens of kilometers due to Russian air defense and superiority in the sky.

The cluster version of the JSOW bomb carries 145 submunitions that weigh 1.5 kg each and have a combined cumulative and fragmentation effect.

It was previously reported that the United States will announce the allocation of a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth $375 million. This should take place on Wednesday, September 25.

The US Senate approved a bill on financing military aid to Ukraine worth $60 billion. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal thanked the senators for an important decision for the defense capability of our country.

In addition, the United States modernized the electronic warfare systems on the F-16 fighters, which Belgium, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands transferred to Ukraine. Even the US’s NATO allies do not yet have such a version of the systems.
