The SBI exposed the supply channel of cannabis and methadone to the Zhytomyr colony

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) with the assistance of the National Police and the SBU exposed a criminal group that systematically supplied drugs to “Zhytomyr Penitentiary No. 8”.

This is stated in a message on the department’s website.

The scheme was organized by one of the convicted murderers, involving an official of the institution, his cellmate and an acquaintance who was at large. The group has been active since around March 2025, dealing primarily in cannabis and methadone, as well as certain prescription drug enhancers.

The convict, while in the colony, used the telephone to give instructions to an acquaintance, who was at large, to buy drugs and leave them in the mailbox of an employee of the institution. The latter kept the “goods” in his own garage, and then carried them onto the territory of the institution out of control. Inside the colony, the organizer together with a cellmate sold drugs to other prisoners.

DBR employees detained an official during another attempt to smuggle drugs, as well as a civilian who was engaged in their acquisition. During the searches, prohibited substances were discovered and seized from all the participants of the scheme and some of the prisoners.

Four members of the group were informed of the suspicion. Sanctions of the incriminated articles provide up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. In the near future, the court will choose preventive measures for the suspects.

It will be recalled that a resident of Kyiv was sentenced to 9 years in prison, who was detained while trying to send drugs by a delivery service.
