During the full-scale war, the investigation into the direct involvement of the Russian special services in the crimes committed during the events on the Maidan 11 years ago intensified.

In an interview with “RBK-Ukraine”, lawyer of “Nebesnaya Sotna” Vitaly Tytych told about this.

“As strange as it may sound, the full-scale war just helped move the investigation into the involvement of the Russian special services in these crimes from a standstill,” says Vitaly Tytych.

According to him, everything that happened on the Maidan, starting from November 30 – the beatings and torture of students under the “Stela”, ending with terrorist attacks in Kyiv and Odessa – was the implementation of the Kremlin’s strategy to provoke a “civil conflict”, which was supposed to create the appearance of grounds for armed aggression, the occupation of Crimea and the war in Donbas, and then a large-scale war.

“The crimes were committed by the hands of Ukrainian “law enforcement officers”, but the investigation has evidence of the real involvement of senior officials of the Russian special services – the customers and organizers. The Russian Federation’s use of its special services, agents and mercenaries on the territory of Ukraine, if there are consequences, falls under the qualification of Article 8bis of the Rome Statute (crime of aggression, – ed.) That is, according to international criminal law, the Maidan is the beginning of Russian aggression,” Tytych adds.

At the same time, it is possible to assert the actual proven influence of the Russian Federation only after the verdicts have become legally binding.

“There are currently no such verdicts against high-ranking officials and the role of the Russian Federation,” the lawyer of “Heavenly Hundred” notes.

It should be noted that in the 11 years since the beginning of the Euromaidan, not a single judge who illegally tried Maidan participants, and not a single prosecutor who prepared charges against them, have been brought to justice, said Oleksiy Donskyi, head of the Department for Maidan Affairs of the Prosecutor General’s Office.

As of February 2024, the term of 69 Maidan cases has expired, which gives the accused the right to ask for their closure. So far, seven such cases have already been closed because of this.

Recently, the Dnipro District Court of Kyiv acquitted the law enforcement officers who were accused of illegally bringing to criminal responsibility and initiating the detention of 72-year-old participant of the Revolution of Dignity Mykola Pasichnyk from Vinnychyna.

During the investigation of the Maidan cases, the law enforcement officers announced suspicion to 540 persons, of which 76 persons received sentences.
