Polish farmers started a new strike on the border with Ukraine on Saturday, November 23. The movement of trucks was restricted.
This is reported by RFM24 and DPSU.
In the morning, a protest action of agrarians, who blocked the road to the border crossing with Ukraine, began at the border crossing point “Medyka”.
The co-organizer of the blockade explained that the farmers are protesting for two reasons. The first is non-fulfillment of the requirement to maintain the level of the agricultural tax in 2024 at the level of 2023. The second reason is the concern related to the signing of the EU on free trade with the countries of South America.
Farmers have blocked the road, trucks from Ukraine are not allowed to pass through the pedestrian crossing and railway viaduct. Trucks going from Poland to Ukraine will pass only one per hour. Cars, buses, vehicles with humanitarian aid and military convoys are not restricted.
The State Border Service of Ukraine notes that currently there is no accumulation of trucks in front of the checkpoint for departure from Ukraine. About 150 trucks are waiting to enter Ukraine.
According to preliminary information, the promotion will last 48 hours with a possible extension.
It will be recalled that Polish farmers previously announced new protests on the border with Ukraine. As the farmers noted, the strike was supposed to last from October 8 to December 31, 2024 at the border crossing “Medyka – Sheghini”.
Border guards warned of possible traffic delays on the Polish border. However, until today, farmers did not block traffic at the border.
It was previously reported that Ukraine will build an additional cargo terminal and a pedestrian crossing at the Yagodin-Dorogusk checkpoint on the border with Poland. The works are planned to be completed by the end of August 2025.
On August 26, at 09:00 a.m., repair work began at the Sheghini-Medyka checkpoint.
Only in March, due to blocking of the border by Polish farmers, Ukraine lost UAH 6.5 billion in customs revenue.
In Poland, farmers announced large-scale protests across the country on Wednesday, March 20. In particular, demonstrations with agricultural machinery and blockades are planned in about 400 places. A dozen important roads on the approach to Warsaw will also be affected.
