An event was held in Kyiv that should unite lawyers and business in the fight for transparency III Anti-Corruption Forum. However, among the distinguished speakers and experts in the hall there was a person whose presence turned the event into a scene from the theater of the absurd.
The forum was organized by the publishing house “Legal Practice” together with the Association of Ukrainian Corporate Advisors. Lawyers, representatives of NAZK and judges discussed the mechanisms of combating bribery and illegal enrichment. The irony of fate (or the height of cynicism) lies in the fact that Khrystyna Ilnytska came to hear about it – a woman whose fortunes in a minimally short period of time turned from modest to spectacular just after her life appeared Deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyi.
Who is Ilnytska?
Khrystyna Ilnytska known not as an anti-corruption lawyer, but as the girlfriend of the scandalous ex-deputy Prosecutor General Dmytro Verbytskyi. The same Verbytskyi, who was charged with illegal enrichment.
Let’s recall the “track record” of this couple, which makes Ilnytska’s visit to the forum at least audacious:
- Over the past 10 years, the official total income of Ilnytska, reported to the state, amounted to a ridiculous 360 thousand hryvnias. In the last three years, she has not officially earned anything at all.
- Despite the meager income, in 2024 Khrystyna became the owner of property worth at least 52 million hryvnias. It is about a new Porsche Macan T (worth $100,000) and a three-story cottage in the elite town of Konik.
- The town of “Konyk” itself was involved in the criminal proceedings, which were managed by the Prosecutor General’s Office (where Verbytskyi was the deputy). Strangely after appearance Verbytsky’s arrests from the developer’s property were lifted, and Ilnytsk suddenly “populated” with an elite house.
What was discussed on the forum
While Ilnytska was taking a selfie for Instagram, things were discussed on stage that, in my opinion, would make her hair stand on end.
As reported “Legal practice” experts discussed lifestyle monitoring – this is exactly what caused the Verbytskyi-Ilnytskyi couple to “burn out”. Also discussed was the civil forfeiture of unsubstantiated assets: a mechanism that allows the state to seize property whose origin cannot be explained.
That is, a person who cannot explain the origin of his million-dollar assets and whose partner is under suspicion of corruption, came to hear how the state plans to confiscate such assets. It is difficult to imagine a more vivid illustration of the proverb about “dew in the eyes”.
“The prey has come to the predators”: why is she there?
Instead of sitting quietly at home (perhaps in the same cottage in Konik) and not attracting too much attention, Ilnytska decided to post a photo report from the event on social media. It looks like an outright mockery of law enforcement and common sense.
Social media users do not hold back in their comments.
One thing is obvious: the concept of “reputational hygiene” is an empty sound for some characters of the Ukrainian beau monde. And the presence of Ilnytska at such an event is not just brave, it is a slap in the face of all those who are really fighting corruption.
And finally – about double standards. The presence of Ilnytska at such an event devalues every word spoken by the speakers from the stage. What kind of transparency and ethics can we talk about if the legal community tolerates in its ranks people whose fortunes scream corruption louder than any court verdict? It seems that the forum was successful only for one person who is a living refutation of the effectiveness of all your institutions – Christina herself.
We will remind, at the beginning of July, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption revealed signs of a corruption criminal offense in the actions of the former Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Dmytro Verbytskyi. New evidence indicates his illegal enrichment of almost 29 million hryvnias.
