Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets denied the existence of child exchange agreements with Russia. He emphasized that Qatar acts as an intermediary in the return of illegally deported Ukrainian children.
There was no agreement on the exchange of children between Ukraine and Russia and there cannot be, this is how the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets, reacted to media reports that Qatar allegedly announced the achievement of an agreement on the exchange of 13 children.
“In one of the foreign media, information spread that Qatar allegedly announced an agreement with Ukraine and Russia on the exchange of children. In fact, no one made any agreement. It looks like a frank promotion of Russian narratives” Lubinets wrote in Telegram.
According to him, Qatar acts as a mediator in the return of illegally deported and forcibly displaced Ukrainian children. At the same time, he pointed out that Ukraine did not abduct or keep Russian children on its territory, and does not prevent their return to the USSR if they are on our territory.
“International humanitarian law does not provide for such a process as the exchange of children. What kind of cynicism does one have to reach in order to propose a similar mechanism for the return of Ukrainian children from deportation?”, Lubinets asks.
Earlier we wrote that 92 people, including 10 children and 1 person with limited mobility, were evacuated from the front-line settlements of the Pokrovsky district of the Donetsk region.
