Paid autobahns may appear in Ukraine: the first such project is planned to be implemented in Volyn, on the section from Kovel to the Ukrainian-Polish border.
This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Serhiy Derkach.
The new autobahn can pass from Kovel to the checkpoint “Yagodin-Dorogusk”. The project involves repairing the existing road and expanding it to four lanes. According to Derkach, this will make it possible to extend the Polish autobahn and create an efficient transport connection with the railway hub in Kovel.
The maintenance of the road is planned to be handed over to private companies under the terms of a concession. At the same time, it is not about ordinary repairs, but about complete reconstruction and creation of new lanes. The primary choice of border routes is explained by their high load.
“In order to build a financial model, you need to know the number of vehicles, so that the road is interesting, so that someone pays for its use,” said Derkach.
In the Ivano-Frankivsk region, 22 kilometers of the Ivano-Frankivsk – Bystrytsia road will be overhauled, which can become an alternative road to the Bukovel ski resort. The expected cost of the works is UAH 2.4 billion.
