In Bila Tserkva, a 60-year-old resident was sentenced to 14 years in prison for setting fire to her son, outraged by his alcohol abuse.
As reported by the police of the Kyiv region on Facebook, the incident took place on June 12, 2024. Medics turned to law enforcement after a fire in an apartment, as a result of which a 37-year-old man received burns all over his body.
“The law enforcement officers found out that the mother came to the room where her son was resting, and out of revenge poured a flammable mixture over him and threw a lit match. The man’s clothes started to burn, he woke up in pain and fell to the floor. A neighbor came to the cries for help and helped extinguish the victim. Later, doctors diagnosed him with 86% burns of his entire body of various degrees. “Unfortunately, the man died in the hospital from his injuries,” the message reads.
The elderly woman was taken to the detention center and informed about the suspicion.
At the end of July 2024, investigators under the procedural leadership of the Bilotserk District Prosecutor’s Office submitted to the court the materials regarding the intentional murder, committed with particular cruelty (clause 4, part 2, article 115 of the Criminal Code).
The woman was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
