More and more Ukrainians began to find work in Germany. German Labor Minister Hubertus Heil said this on Friday, September 27, Tagesspiegel reports.
According to Hail, in September 8,500 citizens of Ukraine found work on the primary market, completed training or became self-employed. According to him, this is twice as much as in September 2023.
In July 2024, approximately 266,000 of the 700,000 Ukrainians of working age who came to Germany were employed. Out of this number, 213,000 Ukrainians paid social contributions, and another 53,000 had them “mini-job”.
As the general director of the Federal Employment Agency Andrea Nales explained, currently the labor market is not very favorable for Ukrainians. It still remains an obstacle in Germany “confusion of approval procedures for the recognition of professional qualifications”.
Nales added that learning the language also remains a problem. According to her, there are programs in the country, for example, for language learning “at work”.
On September 2, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that he wants more refugees from Ukraine to start working in the country as soon as possible.
It was previously reported that as of mid-August 2023, 707,800 refugees from Ukraine received unemployment benefits in Germany. The German government did not plan to deprive Ukrainians of social benefits, but it is creating conditions to promote their employment.
DW, with reference to Bild am Sontag, wrote that welfare recipients in Germany may be forced to accept work that requires spending up to 3 hours traveling to and from work.
On June 22, the leader of the Bavarian opposition party Christian Social Union (CSU) in the Bundestag Alexander Dobrindt called for deporting Ukrainian refugees if they do not have a job. At the same time, the German government rejected this proposal.
