Dmytro Kuleba, the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, expressed serious concerns about the prospects of the war, saying that today Ukraine does not have sufficient means to change the course of events. He noted that if the situation does not change, Ukraine may lose the war. However, he said, the situation was even worse in the first months of the full-scale invasion.
Kuleba said this in a conversation with a journalist from the Financial Times.
Kuleba also criticized international experts who ask what Ukraine is ready to do to resolve the conflict, noting that it is important to understand what Putin is ready to accept, since he is the one who initiated the war. He emphasized that Putin’s goal is to dismantle the Ukrainian state.
Regarding Western support, Kuleba suggested that while the Biden administration has supported Ukraine, it was initially slow to provide offensive weapons because President Joe Biden is guided by a Cold War logic that includes caution about NATO and the nuclear issue.
He also commented on the possibility of a peace agreement in 2022, noting that Russia’s proposals were completely frivolous and actually aimed at demilitarizing Ukraine and neutralizing it.
As for NATO, Kuleba expressed doubts whether the Alliance is a guarantee of security. He noted that if in the future the president of the United States, for example, Donald Trump, is not ready to defend the territory of allies, Russia may feel free for aggression.
When asked about the duration of the war, Kuleba noted that it will continue until Putin believes that Ukraine has no right to exist, and added that the international recognition of Ukraine as an independent state would have been significantly delayed without this war.
Earlier we wrote that Dmytro Kuleba, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, was offered the position of Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA, instead of Oksana Markarova.
We will also remind that the former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, told journalist Ramina Eshakzai in an interview that his parents reacted very emotionally to the release of their son.
