The overwhelming majority of Ukrainians now stand for the war through diplomatic agreements, but almost no one is expecting the end of the fighting in the near future.
This is evidenced by the results of the Gallup survey conducted from July 1 to July 14.
According to the data, only a quarter of respondents (25 %) believes that the fighting can stop within next year, and only 5 % called this scenario “very likely”. At the same time, 68 % of respondents do not believe in the end of the war for 12 months.
As for the ways to peace, 69 % of Ukrainians stand for a truce as soon as possible through negotiations. Only 24 % believe that the war should last until the full victory. For comparison, in 2022, most – 73 % – supported the continuation of hostilities, and only 22 % performed for diplomacy.
Gallup notes that such a change in mood occurs against the background of the revival of diplomatic initiatives. In particular, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky recently declared his readiness to restore direct negotiations with Putin. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is trying to press on the Kremlin, including sanctions to push for agreements.
Nevertheless, the fighting remains intense: rocket and drone attacks continue daily, and fierce battles are at the front.
A new survey showed that the conditional peace plan of the Russian Federation, which, in particular, includes a significant reduction of the Ukrainian army, refusal to NATO membership and transfer under the control of Russia’s territories controlled by Ukraine, categorically reject 76% of Ukrainians.
Supporting the war against Ukraine among the residents of the Russian Federation remains high – two -thirds want negotiations on their own terms.
