On December 9, Ukraine and the world celebrate the International Anti-Corruption Day, the anniversary of the signing of the UN Convention against Corruption.

Until this date, the State Border Service of Ukraine has published the results of its work on countering corruption within its own ranks.

The department emphasizes that in the conditions of a full-scale war, the issue of personnel integrity and prevention of abuse remains one of the key areas of activity.

Special attention is paid to both the prevention of offenses and the prosecution of offenders.

During 2025, border guards recorded and stopped 558 attempts to provide illegal benefits for a total of 6.9 million hryvnias. Since the introduction of martial law, the number of documented bribery attempts has reached 1,878 cases.

According to the agency, it is mainly about attempts to influence the passage of control, avoiding responsibility or obtaining illegal advantages when crossing the border.

The DPSU emphasizes that the principled position of the staff and the systematic work of internal security units do not give such attempts a chance of success.

At the same time, the service does not silence cases of possible abuse among its own personnel. In 2025, 56 people were detained on suspicion of corruption offenses.

The court has already found 14 defendants guilty – some of them have been fined more than 1.28 million hryvnias, others face or have already been sentenced to up to seven years in prison.

The department emphasizes that this practice demonstrates the principled position of the management regarding zero tolerance for violations of the law.

In parallel with bringing violators to justice, the DPSU encourages military personnel who demonstrate high standards of integrity.

This year, the agency honored 138 servicemen for their honest service and principled stance in combating corruption. Such an incentive is designed not only to reward specific people, but also to form a clear understanding of the value of transparent and responsible behavior in teams.

The command is convinced that public recognition of integrity forms the necessary guidelines for the entire personnel.

It will be recalled that the majority of Ukrainians believe that corruption increased during the war.

NABU also confirmed cooperation with the SBU in the case of energy corruption.
