Although the government has not yet published official forecast data, preliminary calculations indicate that the increase in pensions may be from 14.6% to 15.4%, reports Oboz.ua.
For certain categories of elderly people, state assistance may also be increased.
The indexation mechanism provides that the so-called “bare” amount of the pension increases by a certain percentage, which is calculated as half of last year’s inflation and the average dynamics of wage growth over the past three years.
So, the average wage growth over the last three years can be about 20%. Thus, calculations give indexation at the level of 14.6%. Analysts had previously forecast a 15.4% increase, based on more optimistic expectations for inflation and wages. However, the exact figures will not be known until February 2026, when the official statistics will be published.
Despite the general percentage of indexation, it is not worth expecting that every pensioner will receive at least 14.6%. There are several factors that can affect the final amount of the raise:
Indexation applies only to the “bare” amount of the pension. For example, if a person is 65 years old and has full service, his pension should be at least 40% of the minimum wage – this is UAH 3,458.8 (taking into account the increase in the minimum wage). If the actual pension amounts to UAH 3,250, then the 14.6% indexation is applied to this amount. In this case, the payment will increase to UAH 3,724.5, instead of the guaranteed minimum.
Indexation is not carried out in the first years after the appointment of a pension. Although the Supreme Court declared this practice illegal, it continues to exist. This means that pensions awarded recently are not actually adjusted in the first years, even taking into account inflation.
Indexation in March 2026 will be an important event for the majority of Ukrainian pensioners. It will help partially compensate for inflationary losses, but will not ensure a uniform increase for everyone. Those receiving a pension under the old formula will see a real increase, while pensioners whose benefits were assigned recently may be left without indexation for the first few years.
