In 2025, Lamont Roach already fought with Davis. He was moving up in weight for this fight and no one was taking his chances seriously. Before that, Gervonta met with Frank Martin – a boxer similar to Roach in many ways. Martin Davis was knocked out before half the fight. But nothing happened here.
To be honest, Gervonta was lucky then. And the referee did not count a clean knockdown, and the judges did not watch the fight for a while. As a result, the match, which should have ended in defeat, turned into a draw. Davis was offended by such a decision, but he should have thanked everyone present.
However, this was not the only thing that intrigued such a couple. Lamont Roach and Isaac Cruz box in such styles that it should not be sad. Although it could. Fears did not come true, but many thought that Lamont could dry up the meeting. Thanks to his size and speed, he can steal rounds, keep his distance and use the clinch a lot.
However, Roach began to box and fight, and not just score points. And because of this, the show turned into a fun attraction.
Cruz was as usual. Pressed a lot, followed the opponent. He often delivered jabs and worked very, very hard with the sides. The Mexican repeatedly hit the opponent below the belt, for which he even received a penalty – the referee deducted a point from him.
However, it hardly affected the match much. The thing is that before that Isaac got a knockdown. Roach had never been knocked down in professional boxing before, but the Mexican’s sidekick still forced him to touch the ring with his glove.
But these are episodes. The match itself was fully aimed at finding out who is stronger. Roach got into the opponent’s element and didn’t look bad there. He exchanged blows with Cruz, answering blow for blow. Such a clash of styles of a tough aggressor and a classic American boxer.
It was fun, but no one liked the result. A draw by split decision.

And Lamont Roach is already a little tired of getting draws. This is already the second for him this year – before that was even more controversial in a duel against Gervonta Davis. “All I want is to be treated honestly, that’s all. I think I pulled out this win. Close, but victory. That’s some shit, man. I am absolutely sure that I won,” said Roach.
In general, both can be understood. The boxers gave everything they had in the ring, so they preferred to see a clear result. And a draw is neither in these nor in those. Although, if we talk specifically about this meeting, perhaps this is a good summary.
The revenge is real. Roach and Cruz don’t look like boxers who will run away from challenges. And they really showed a high level and a cool fight. And so people are going to watch it again. Tickets will be sold, broadcasts will be the same.
As life shows, revenges are often won by smarter boxers – in this case it is Roach. However, despite this, the reunion is definitely interesting for everyone who saw the first one.
