In the current season, Chelsea players have started following a new ritual on the field, which was initiated by team captain Rhys James.

This innovation is designed to strengthen team spirit and create a sense of unity in the locker room. The Aristocrats have made a successful start to the 2025/26 campaign and are currently third in the Premier League. The atmosphere in the team played an important role in this.

This season, Rhys James proposed a rule that at half-time all players must gather around the center circle before heading to the stands together.

Fans first saw the ritual during a match against Tottenham last month, which Chelsea won 1-0.

Head coach Enzo Maresca praised James’ leadership qualities. In addition to introducing new traditions, the captain has been excellent in his new role as a holding midfielder, although he continues to be effective at fullback.

“Rhys is fantastic when he plays in midfield, and he is just as good on the defensive flank. But just as important is how he shows himself as a leader among the players in the dressing room,” said Maresca.

Chelsea are currently on a seven-match unbeaten run and continue to fight for the top spots in the Championship and the Champions League.
