The tragedy happened in the evening of July 19: the woman was returning home along the usual route on the sidewalk when a car hit her. After the collision, the accused did not call medics and did not provide any assistance, but fled the scene of the accident. The victim died in hospital from her injuries.
The court found Molochny guilty of committing a fatal road accident and sentenced him to 7.5 years in prison.
The Prosecutor General emphasized that the prosecution requested the maximum stipulated term of 10 years in prison for Molochnoy, and considers the prescribed punishment to be too lenient, so the prosecution will appeal the verdict.
Kravchenko noted that, in his opinion, this tragedy was the result of “neglect of responsibility, due to indifference and belief in impunity” and that punishment should be inevitable, regardless of whether the crime is committed by a prosecutor, a law enforcement officer, or a civilian.
Direct speech: “I consider this punishment too lenient, so the prosecution will file an appeal.
Yes, no sentence will return a person’s life, will not return a mother to her children. But we must send a clear signal: it does not matter who committed the crime – an employee of the prosecutor’s office, law enforcement agencies or a civilian – we will always demand fair punishment for everyone.
This is how the system should work. It cannot be otherwise. And it won’t be.”
