Law enforcement officers of Ukraine have detained two people who are suspected of being involved in the brutal murder of a Ukrainian student in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
A young man who studied at a local university was found dead in his apartment. According to preliminary data, the deceased was killed a few days ago after a conflict with acquaintances.
The Austrian police started an investigation and quickly established that Ukrainian citizens may be involved in the crime. After receiving operational information about their whereabouts, an international manhunt was announced.
The suspects were detained on the territory of Ukraine in close cooperation with Austrian law enforcement agencies and Interpol.
According to the investigation, the attackers fled Austria almost immediately after the murder, trying to hide in Ukraine. They were discovered thanks to the coordination work of the Ukrainian and Austrian special services.
During the searches, physical evidence was taken from the detainees, which could confirm their participation in the crime.
The perpetrators have now been taken into custody. The extradition procedure to Austria, where official charges are to be brought against them, is ongoing.
Ukrainian law enforcement officers stressed that the crime will not go unpunished and that they are ready to fully cooperate with their European colleagues to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy.
It will be recalled that a former official of “Energoatom” was detained in Kyiv.
NABU and SAP also detained a judge of the Volovetsky district court for a $1,300 bribe.
