Apparently, the comment was addressed to US President Donald Trump.
Donald Tusk reminded allies why NATO exists / photo UNIANPolish Prime Minister Donald Tusk made a scathing comment about some NATO allies, reminding them why the alliance exists at all. He made his statement on the social network Kh.
“I want to remind our allies that NATO was created to protect the West from Soviet aggression, that is, from Russia. And its basis was solidarity, not selfish interests. I hope that nothing has changed,” he wrote.
Tusk did not provide additional context for his statement, but it can be assumed that it is a criticism of the US administration.
So, the day before it became known that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will probably not come to the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels on December 3. This is extremely unusual for an event of this level. In addition, this is happening against the background of US attempts to impose a “peace plan” on Ukraine that is beneficial to Russia, and which has already been harshly criticized in Europe.
In addition, it should be added that recently US President Donald Trump likes to show off that he has completely stopped free American aid to Ukraine and is now forcing NATO allies to buy American weapons and then transfer them to Ukraine.
Other recent statements by TuskAs UNIAN wrote, the other day, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the 28-point “peace plan” proposed by the US to end the war in Ukraine needs significant revision, as some of its provisions are unacceptable to the EU. Tusk stressed that the negotiations remain delicate and Europe must act as a united front and do everything to keep the US on its side.
Tusk is also interested in who exactly was the author of this “peace plan” and where exactly it was written. After all, a “leak” of the conversation of the special representative of the US President Steve Witkoff with Kremlin officials has already appeared on the Internet, from which it follows that this “peace plan”, or its draft, was created by the Russians and only then handed over to the Americans.
