The President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Odile Reno-Basso, said that the bank that lends to Ukrzaliznytsia expects the company’s financial situation to improve and its costs to decrease.
She noted that for the efficiency of passenger transportation, UZ should move from cross-subsidization at the expense of freight transportation to receiving targeted financing from the budget for the most vulnerable categories of the population.
“Tariffs and passenger contributions are important for balancing financial indicators. Sometimes it is useful for clients to pay for services, and targeted support from the budget is provided only to those who need it,” Reno-Basso emphasized.
According to her, discussions are currently ongoing with Ukrzaliznytsia so that the bank can familiarize itself with the company’s strategy and make sure of its ability to return loan funds.
As a reminder, trains will run hourly between Kyiv and Lviv – Ukrzaliznytsia.
