Today, November 13, the Unified Center for the Identification of the Bodies of the Dead began its work in Ukraine. This specialized institution aims to significantly increase the efficiency of the process of identifying persons who gave their lives in the war with the Russian Federation, thanks to the application of various methods of examination and data exchange with international colleagues.
This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
The single center became the venue for an on-site meeting of Deputy Head of the Office of the President Iryna Vereshchuk and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Leonid Timchenko.
Tymchenko emphasized that the Center will provide an opportunity for identification in the most difficult cases and will allow establishing the names of all the dead. The specialized institution will allow conducting examinations using various methods and exchanging data with international colleagues, implementing the best global practices.
- Increasing efficiency: The identification process has become more effective thanks to the centralization of regional bureaus of forensic medical expertise into a single system under the management of the Ministry of Health and close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
- The role of the Ministry of Internal Affairs: The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs noted that the role of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in this process is extremely important: “we not only ensure coordination, but also guarantee that every person killed during the war will be identified and buried with dignity.”
Earlier, the Government supported the launch of an experimental project on biometric identification of the dead. It is aimed at prompt and accurate identification of fallen defenders, servicemen and civilians using biometric data.
As a reminder, thanks to the ANDE DNA laboratories, which the National Police received from the USA, the identification time of persons who died as a result of hostilities was reduced to 90 minutes.
