Tymchenko explained why Poltava lost to Shakhtar 1:7

Assistant head coach of SC “Poltava” Ihor Tymchenko commented on the defeat of his team against Shakhtar (1:7) in the match of the 12th round of the UPL.

– Before the game, you said that the boys have nothing to lose, and the most important thing is to gain experience. After such an account, what conclusions were drawn?

– For us, this game was unsuccessful, the score speaks for itself. The match with Shakhtar was historic, because we met them for the first time. The conclusion is one – the opponent surpasses us in all components: in class, in speed, in skill level. We need to work harder and analyze our own mistakes. A very unpleasant score, but it is a great experience for us.

– Your team did not shut down, played at a high level. There were no thoughts to act more cautiously, from defense?

– We did not plan to “sit down” and simply fight back. This style is not ours. We are used to playing high because it is, strangely enough, even safer for our goal. In the second half, we conceded four goals, being in positional defense. Such a game requires a lot of energy and concentration. If someone makes a mistake, Shakhtar immediately takes advantage of it. And it was the number of individual mistakes that affected the final result.

– Next week there will be a break due to national team matches. What will you work on?

– Above everything. You have to work from morning to night, there is no other way. You can change players or coaches, but without hard work the team will not progress.

– What about Veremienko, who was replaced after the first half?

– He has a bruised muscle, because of which he could not continue the game. I hope he will recover by the next match. We’ve only recently brought back key players, so we’d hate to have another loss.
