The agency’s interlocutors specified that it was about Indian Oil Corp., Bharat Petroleum Corp. and Hindustan Petroleum Corp. These refineries plan to refrain from purchasing raw oil in the future procurement cycle until they receive clear recommendations from the government.
Officially, New Delhi did not give any instructions to the oil refinement to stop the purchase of Russian crude oil, and the Prime Minister of Narendra Modi is resisting Trump’s tariffs.
Earlier, as reported by the media, oil refineries were proposed to develop plans for the purchase of non -Russian crude oil.
On August 6, US President Donald Trump issued a decree on the introduction of an additional duty of 25% for import goods from India, saying that the country is directly or indirectly importing Russian oil. Earlier, India had already been in force on 25%import duties. Thus, the total amount of duties on goods from India will be 50%.
“India not only purchases a huge amount of Russian oil, but also resold most of it in the open market with a lot of profits,” Trump wrote on August 4 on the Truth Social network. “They don’t care how many people in Ukraine die from a Russian military car.” On the same day, India accused the US and the EU of double standards for trade with Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India states that Washington and Brussels continue trade with Russia, although it is “not a question of vital necessity.”
On August 6, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India stated that Trump’s decision to introduce additional duties on goods from India through the purchase of Russian oil by this country is “extremely unsuccessful”.
India is one of the largest buyers of Russian oil. Much of it is processed into petroleum products, which are then supplied to other countries.
