Relatives of the MH17 victims in the disaster, which in 2014 was beaten over the Donetsk region, insist that without recognizing Russia’s responsibility for the crime, there may be no reliable agreement to end the war in Ukraine.

This is stated in letters sent by US President Donald Trump and the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen, whose copies were at the disposal of European Truth.

In two letters, the relatives of the victims spoke about a possible peace agreement on the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. They claim that reliable agreements are difficult to reach without recognizing Russia’s responsibility for MH17.

The EP writes that the relatives of the victims have long been demanding from the Russians the recognition of guilt, apology, as well as a public investigation against all those involved and the causes of the plane.

They now believe that their requirements should be part of any potential peaceful settlement.

It is noted that copies of the letters were also received by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Sokyph and the high EU representative on foreign affairs and security policy, Kai Callas.

MH17 flight disaster

On July 17, 2014, Malaysia Airlines liner made a flight MH17 from the Dutch Amsterdam to the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. As the investigation has proven, a Russian anti -aircraft missile system was hit by a rocket over the occupied part of the Donetsk region. All 298 people were on board the aircraft, including 80 children. This is the largest number of victims in the history of aviation in all cases of beating civilian liners.

On November 17, 2022, the Hague District Court announced its decision in the case of the MH17 flight and identified the fate of four accused after two and a half years of court. Igor Girkina, Leonid Kharchenko and Sergiy Dubinsky was sentenced to life imprisonment. Oleg Pulatov was justified for lack of evidence in involvement in the tragedy. The court also confirmed that Russia controlled fighters in eastern Ukraine when a plane was shot down.

From the Report of the Joint Investigative Group published in February 2023 (Jit) implies that there are “good reasons” to claim that the decision to supply the anti-aircraft missile complex DNR »was personally approved by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
