The security service and the prosecutor’s office collected evidence of war crimes committed by Russian colonel-general Yevgeny Nikiforov, the commander of the “West” troop group of the Russian Armed Forces. The Security Service of Ukraine informs about this.
It is noted that on August 19, 2023, on his order, the occupiers launched a rocket attack on the Taras Shevchenko Academic Music and Drama Theater in Chernihiv.
During the air attack, the enemy used an Iskander-M cruise missile launched from the Kursk region of Russia.
As a result of the enemy attack, seven local residents died, including a six-year-old child. More than 200 people were injured of various degrees of severity.
The large number of dead and injured is due to the fact that the rocket attack by the Rashists took place in the central part of the city.
In addition, apartment buildings, administrative buildings and citizens’ cars were damaged during the explosion.
On the basis of the collected evidence, the investigators of the Security Service informed Nikiforov in absentia about the suspicion under part. 2 Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder).
Comprehensive measures are underway to bring him to justice for crimes against our state.
The investigation was conducted by SBU employees in the Chernihiv region under the procedural guidance of the Chernihiv regional prosecutor’s office.
