Today there are several important decisions.
Today, together with Chief of Staff Oleksandr Syrskyi, it was determined that the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine should be replaced. Major General Mykhailo Drapaty was appointed as the new commander. Also, Colonel Oleg Apostol was appointed as the new deputy of the Central Committee – before that, he commanded the 95th brigade of the DSHV. Both are very experienced warriors. Mykhailo Drapaty this year organized the defense in the Kharkiv direction and actually disrupted the Russian offensive operation. In general, he has been at war since the 14th year, in the most hot and responsible directions. Oleg Apostol is a Hero of Ukraine, has passed all command positions in the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, has also been protecting our state since the 14th year, clearly knows what is needed to strengthen the combat capability of our army. Now Oleg Apostol will be responsible for the new quality of training of our soldiers, he has full support at all levels to ensure this. Ground troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are the basis of the army. And much depends for Ukraine on how effectively the structure of the Ground Forces and all Defense and Security Forces of Ukraine will work. Changes are needed – changes in the management of people that will ensure more results on the battlefield. He also appointed Colonel Pavel Palis as the deputy head of the Office – combat commander, commander of the 93rd brigade “Kholodny Yar”. He understands well what is in the brigades, at the front, and I need just such a person to know exactly the information directly from the front on a daily basis.
And one more thing. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine continues to develop our “Army+” application, and already in December, the National Guard of Ukraine should join all “Army+” services. In particular, this applies to translations.
Held a meeting of the Stavka today. The greatest attention is paid to energy: protection of objects, restoration work. There were relevant reports. There are tasks related to covering objects and communication with partners for the purpose of supplying air defense systems. I spoke today with German Chancellor Scholz. I thanked Olaf for Germany’s leadership in the supply of air defense, namely the Patriots and the Iris-T systems. We discussed our next steps in defense cooperation. Today I spoke with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. I am grateful to Emmanuel for accepting our request for additional supply. Both France and Germany can help us even more significantly now in defense against Russian terrorist attacks. Of course, we coordinate our contacts with other partners as well. He also spoke with Norwegian Prime Minister Stere. He thanked the Prime Minister personally and his government team, the Norwegian team for increasing support for Ukraine for the next year; we really appreciate it. I am grateful to the Parliament of Norway for its consolidated support to Ukraine. They discussed joint actions for the near future. We will increase joint work both for the production of weapons in Ukraine and for the protection of the energy industry. Cooperation with Norway in the field of air defense was discussed separately. I thank you for your willingness to help.
Today, I met with a very representative delegation from Latin America: members of parliament, senators. Almost the entire region was represented. The situation and prospects were discussed in detail – both here, in our defense, and in relations with Latin America, with other partners. I outlined what exactly we can do, how exactly we can deepen cooperation with Latin America. And I am grateful for all the words of support, for all the emotions and for the fact that Ukraine is being heard. Together we must bring a just peace closer and put pressure on Russia. We do everything for this. Thanks to everyone who helps!
