Details: The landslide occurred on Wednesday in Bulambuli district, about 300 km east of the Ugandan capital Kampala.

According to the Red Cross, at least 40 households were completely buried by the landslide.

According to the Prime Minister, 15 people died, but there may be many more bodies underground.

The landslide destroyed all bridges in the area and flooded roads, making rescue operations difficult.

Police said 113 people were missing and impassable roads prevented evacuation and rescue operations.

Uganda has been suffering from heavy rains since October that have caused floods and landslides, with the Nile River overflowing its banks and flooding the main highway linking Kampala with the country’s northwest.
