In at least 8 countries, cards of the PRC UnionPay payment system, which were issued by the Russian “Gazprombank”, stop working or have problems with payments.

About this informs Russian publication The Bell with reference to Russian TASS.

Problems with Gazprombank cards arose in Turkey, UAE, Hungary, Thailand, Germany, Qatar, Kazakhstan and China.

In Turkey, some ATMs do not serve Gazprombank and UnionPay cards, displaying messages about technical problems or lack of sanctions for the operation. This applies to both public and private banks. In ATMs of Emirati banks, a message appears that the card is blocked or inactive, with an offer to contact support.

In Thailand, when you try to withdraw funds from UnionPay cards, ATMs return the card with a message about an incorrect operation. In Hungary, UnionPay cards of Gazprombank are no longer served at ATMs, displaying a refusal warning.

In Germany, ATMs of Sparkasse and Deutsche Bank do not serve Gazprombank cards, displaying a message about an incorrect operation. Gazprombank’s UnionPay cards are no longer active in Qatar, although cards issued by Chinese banks work without problems.

In Kazakhstan, problems with UnionPay cards began on the evening of Friday, November 22. Gazprombank also does not service cards in China, in particular at ICBC ATMs.

We will remind:

USA introduced sanctions against Gazprombank, one of the few major Russian lenders not yet blacklisted, to limit the Kremlin’s ability to finance its war effort.
