Keke Palmer recalled a lasting bit of advice Ice Cube gave her when they worked together on the 2008 movie The Longshots.

Appearing on an episode of Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast this week, the 31-year-old actress said the rapper and actor, now 55, is ‘a man of few words.’

‘He didn’t say too much — a man of few words. But very nice, and one day they were like, “Ice Cube wants to speak to you,” and I’m like, “OK…”‘ she shared.

The former child star said she was taken to a room where the NWA rapper was with bodyguards.

“He’s like, “I just want to tell you, Keke. You’re a beautiful young lady, and I see how kind you are and how nice you are to everybody on the set. But I want you to know you’re growing into a young woman, and a lot of times the way that people see you — the way that these men see you on set — it’s not the way that you see yourself,”‘ she remembered.

Palmer said Ice, born O’Shea Jackson, told her to ‘protect yourself, be careful and don’t let them take advantage of you. Know who you are and know what you have so people can’t use it against you.’

Keke went on to explain that as a 14-year-old she ‘didn’t understand’ the implication of what Ice Cube told her, but she said it ‘stuck with me.’

She added, ‘And it was so important, I think, for him to say something like that to me.

‘He’s a father. He’s someone who has seen a lot in this industry, especially with young entertainers. I always remember that, and I was always so grateful to him for that.’

The Baby, This is Keke Palmer podcast host said, ‘I haven’t seen him since, but I would love to tell him that really stuck with me all these years and thank you for reminding me.’

Palmer has been promoting her memoir Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative, which was published on November 19.

Within the pages of the literary effort the mother-of-one detailed an incident in which Ryan Murphy, who co-created and produced Scream Queens, allegedly called her out for being ‘unprofessional.’

Palmer had a hard time on the series, which aired on Fox for two seasons between 2015 and 2016, according to the new book.

She wrote that she had scheduled a ‘business obligation’ on what was supposed to be a day off from her shooting schedule.

Palmer was later told by series staff members that she had been rescheduled to shoot on what had previously been her day off.

She missed the day of shooting to attend her prior obligation, though it’s unclear if that was communicated with the production.

Murphy was upset by her absence, and she wrote that he called her up and ‘ripped’ into her over the incident.

‘It was kind of like I was in the deans office,’ she explained while speaking with the LA Times.

‘He was like, “I’ve never seen you behave like this. I can’t believe that you, out of all people, would do something like this.”‘
