Details: Dozens of people were reported missing on Sunday after two days of heavy rains flooded the valley around the capital, Kathmandu.

People remained stuck on the roofs of houses, and rescuers are taking them out on rafts. Thousands of houses near rivers were also flooded and many highways were blocked.

According to the forecast, the rains will continue until Tuesday.

According to a government official, more than 3,000 people have been rescued so far.

But many people also died. In particular, five people, including a pregnant woman and a four-year-old girl, died when a house collapsed under a landslide in the city of Bhaktapur.

Two bodies were pulled from a bus buried by a landslide in Dading, west of Kathmandu. There were twelve people in the bus, including the driver.

Six football players were also killed in a landslide at the All Nepal Football Association’s training center in Makwanpur, southwest of the capital.

Others were taken by the water. In one case, four people were washed away by the Nakhu River in the southern part of the Kathmandu Valley.

About 10,000 police officers, as well as volunteers and military personnel, were mobilized for search and rescue operations.

The Nepali Times writes that 112 people have already died across Nepal, and 65 people are still missing.

Four major hydropower projects were halted due to damage. There are periodic power outages.

The publication emphasizes that the monsoon season leads to floods and landslides in Nepal every year.

However, scientists say the rains are becoming more intense due to climate change.

A warmer atmosphere can hold more moisture, and warmer ocean waters can fuel storm systems, making them more unstable.
