Netanyahu said: “Yesterday, Israel eliminated the master murderer, Hassan Nasrallah.”
He emphasized that the liquidation was retribution for the death of many Israelis and foreign citizens, including hundreds of Americans and dozens of Frenchmen.
Netanyahu called Nasrallah a key figure in the axis of evil led by Iran and said that removing the terrorist was a critical step for Israel.
“Nasrallah was a terrorist and the main element of the Iranian axis of evil, which participated in the plans to destroy Israel,” he said.
The prime minister said he concluded earlier this week that recent IDF strikes on Hezbollah were insufficient to achieve strategic goals. Nasrallah’s removal, he said, was an important condition for the return of Israeli citizens to the north of the country and a change in the balance of power in the region.
“As long as Nasrallah was alive, he would quickly recover the opportunities lost by Hezbollah. So I gave the order and now it’s gone. Its elimination will make it possible to return our citizens to the north, as well as those abducted in the south,” Netanyahu said.
He added that after this strike, Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar will understand that Hezbollah will no longer be able to support him, increasing Israel’s chances of returning its abductees.
Netanyahu also thanked the IDF, the Air Force, the Ministry of Defense, the Mossad and the Shin Bet for their successes, but warned that the fight is not over and that serious challenges lie ahead.
“All those suffering from the tyranny of Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Syria, Iran and elsewhere found hope today. Israel is with you,” the prime minister said.
He also emphasized that Israel is capable of reaching any corner of Iran and the Middle East, and the country is now at a historic turning point. Recalling the attack on Israel a year ago, he noted that the enemies who hoped for the collapse of the state were mistaken. “We will continue to strike, return our citizens home and release the abducted. We do not forget them for a second,” Netanyahu said.
