The International Association of Mechanical and Aerospace Workers said its talks with Boeing had broken off and no further talks were scheduled.

About this informs Reuters with reference to the International Association of Mechanical Engineers and Aerospace Workers.

The union is demanding a 40% wage increase and reinstatement of the defined benefit pension that was removed from the contract a decade ago.

More than 32,000 Boeing workers in the Seattle and Portland, Ore., areas walked off the job Sept. 13 in the first union strike since 2008, halting production of airplane models including Boeing’s best-selling 737 MAX.

Boeing on Monday made striking workers an improved offer it called its “best and final” offer, including a 30% pay rise over four years and the restoration of a performance bonus, but the union said a survey of its members showed it was not enough.

Boeing remains committed to restarting its relationship with the represented workers and wants to “reach an agreement as soon as possible,” a company representative said in an email.

The specialized trade union also declared its readiness to continue the dialogue with the company.

We will remind:

On September 18, it was reported that Boeing and its largest union will restore contract negotiations, because the continuation of the strike, which has halted production of the most popular planes, will cost the airline several billion dollars.
