The border guards noticed the details of the rifle, which were visible from under the ground. The place of discovery was secured and employees of the National Police and the State Emergency Service were called.

In total, 4,500 cartridges and 3 hand grenades were retrieved from the ground. In addition, there were 75 units of 7.62-mm Mosin rifles in the cache.
