Details: “Nine minors and one adult will be reunited with their families in Ukraine,” a Qatari official told AFP, clarifying that “four minors” will be reunited with their families in Russia.
The age of the nine children who will return to Ukraine is from 12 to 17 years old. The children who will go to Russia are from 2 to 7 years old.
All will be met at the Qatari embassy in Moscow before reuniting with their families.
Qatar, a mediator in the matter since July 2023, has helped repatriate Ukrainian children transported to Russia and Russian-occupied Ukrainian territory since the invasion began in February 2022.
We will remind:
- In the spring of 2023, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and Russian Children’s Commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova for their direct involvement in the “deportation” of Ukrainian children to Russia starting in February 2022.
- Ukraine estimates that 20,000 Ukrainian minors have been deported or forcibly relocated to Russia, although the total number may be much higher, as this figure only includes officially identified children. Currently, about 400 of them have been repatriated.
