Research conducted by Southern Methodist University (YuMU) and a number of other universities, questions the usual concepts and offers to revise the modern understanding of physics. The results are available on the arXiv preprints server.

The study was performed using the DESI tool (Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument), which provided the most accurate data in the entire history of observations. They hint that current ideas about the structure of the universe may be incomplete. As explained by Joel Meyers, associate professor of physics at YMU, “the data are different from our expectations, and now we need to understand why.”

Leading theoretical physicists from the United States participated in the project: Nathaniel Craig from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Daniel Green from the University of California at San Diego, and Surjit Rajendran from the Johns Hopkins University. During the analysis, the powerful computing systems of Yumu University were used, which helped to consider different scenarios to explain the obtained results.

This project may lead to a revision of the foundations of physics and require changes to educational programs around the world, which will be an important step in the development of science.
